Dr. Rexleigh Bunyard holds Doctor of Music, Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees, from the Universities of Cape Town and Pretoria, a Performer’s Licentiate in Piano from UNISA and a Diplôme Supérieur d’Exécution from the École Normale d’Alfred Cortot in Paris.
She made history in South Africa in 2016 when her humanitarian oratorio, Requiem for the Living, received its world première in August, with performances in the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg and the ZK Matthews Hall at Unisa.
Her love of lighter music also led her to invest her energies in producing and directing many live musical theatre and concert events, including Mes Amis, Mes Amours, Fame- the Musical, A Chorus Line, From Berlin to Broadway, Sauer Street, Once on this Island, her own ecological fantasy musical adventure The Rainbow’s Child, which featured a cast of 120, and many smaller café theatre and musical cabaret productions.
She has also written lyrics, scripts and a poetic libretto for her own opera, Lost in a Bluebell Wood, and designed a ballet called Namaste-My Soul Bows to your Soul.
